Odoo 18: new features, support and migration

Released in October 2024, Odoo 18 is the oldest of the three versions still maintained by the publisher. It laid the groundwork that versions 19 and 20 built upon.

This page details what Odoo 18 brought, application by application: accounting, sales, inventory, manufacturing, human resources, website, point of sale and project. It then covers its support status depending on your hosting and the migration path to Odoo 19 or Odoo 20.

Where does Odoo 18 stand on support?

The publisher maintains the three latest major versions. Since the release of Odoo 20 in September 2026, the window covers Odoo 20, Odoo 19 and Odoo 18. Odoo 17 has just dropped off it. Staying on Odoo 18 is therefore a sensible choice today, provided you decide now on the date of the next jump.

What the end of support will change depending on your hosting

  • On Odoo.sh: the platform requires a supported version. The migration is part of the schedule and is planned now so that it can be carried out calmly.
  • On a dedicated server: your database keeps running after support ends. The publisher simply stops publishing security fixes. The level of risk depends on how exposed your instance is on the internet and on how sensitive your data is. Our advice: plan the migration rather than have it forced on you.

What Odoo 18 brought, application by application

A release that consolidates the Odoo 17 foundation and delivers features SMEs were waiting for. Every point below appears in the publisher's official release notes.

Accounting

Statistics-based alert on abnormal amounts and dates, stronger duplicate vendor bill detection, new analytic budgets, OCR reading of PDF bank statements, invoices sent through the Peppol network, loan management with amortisation and a lock-date wizard with exceptions.

Sales and CRM

Combo products, commission plans for sales teams, custom zones in the PDF quote builder, orders created by dragging and dropping the customer's purchase order, reworked pricelists exportable to PDF, CSV or XLSX. The opportunity's expected revenue is updated when the quotation is confirmed.

Inventory and Barcode

Automated picking waves, splitting a transfer before validation, delivery route management, simplified returns, valuation by lot or serial number, improved putaway rules. The Barcode app supports RFID, bulk serial number scanning and signature on delivery.

Manufacturing

Redesigned Master Production Schedule with annual planning and automatic replenishment, mass serial number generation, work-in-progress journal entries, availability shown in the BoM overview. Shop Floor accepts operations in any order and notes.

Human resources

Overtime validation in Attendances, new Candidate model and duplicate application handling in Recruitment, revamped payslip generation wizard, expiry date for carried-over leave, 360° feedback requests resent in bulk in Appraisals.

Website and eCommerce

Over 60 new building blocks with previews, 27 redesigned themes, import of an existing website, custom fonts, Google Consent Mode v2. On the shop side: Click & Collect, mega menus by category, WebP images, a save-for-later list and a new pickup point interface.

Point of Sale

Fully redesigned checkout interface, QR code payments for customers, customer display on a remote device, product creation and editing from the till, table merging and predefined internal notes in restaurants, event tickets sold at the till.

Project and Timesheets

Burn-up chart, analytic plans per project, sub-tasks created from Kanban cards, revision history of task descriptions, deadlines shown in the Gantt and project sharing with edit rights on followed tasks. The timesheet grid flags missing hours.

Discuss, Documents and Sign

Sub-threads, scheduled messages, @everyone mention, unread message separator, push-to-talk in calls. Documents reworks workspaces, rights and sharing. Sign allows a default template per activity type and radio buttons.

What interface and technical changes came with Odoo 18?

Beyond the applications, Odoo 18 changed cross-cutting mechanisms that every later version has kept.

  • Readable URLs: the backoffice answers under the /odoo prefix, with addresses such as /odoo/project/5/tasks that can be read and edited by hand. Public pages located under that path must be moved.
  • Passkey login: passwordless, phishing-resistant authentication provided by the new auth_passkey module.
  • Dedicated progressive web apps for Barcode, Point of Sale, Attendances, Kiosk, Registration Desk and Shop Floor, installable on mobile from the user menu.
  • Everyday comfort: company-switching shortcut (ALT SHIFT U), Gantt view with infinite horizontal scrolling, mobile search panel, clearer error messages with shareable technical details.
  • Reworked product form: the Storable and Consumable types give way to the Goods type, completed by a Tracked field that states whether and how the product is tracked. A point to check in your imports and custom developments.
  • Dashboards: sharing, company-specific dashboards and six new dashboards delivered (purchase and vendors, operations, restaurant, warehouse, email marketing).
  • Industry packages ready to use: bakery, cleaning services, dropshipping, electrician, marketing agency, outdoor activities, wedding planner.
  • Removals to know about: the eBay connector is gone, as are the Alipay, PayU Latam and PayUmoney payment providers. Worldline replaces Ogone and SIPS.

What breaking points towards Odoo 19 and Odoo 20?

Going from Odoo 18 to Odoo 20 requires two version jumps: Odoo 18 to Odoo 19, then Odoo 19 to Odoo 20. Each jump is checked separately on a copy of the database.

  • Jump to Odoo 19: packagings merge with units of measure, the employee record absorbs the contract with version history, expenses lose their reports in favour of bulk submission and fiscal positions no longer map taxes to each other. Your imports, pricelists and custom modules touching these objects need a review.
  • Jump to Odoo 20: access rights are simplified into a single concept, field service leaves Project for Planning, remote work and the org chart join the HR core and a new print engine coexists with the old one. The detail is on the Odoo 20 page.
  • Third-party modules: each one must exist for the target version. The inventory comes before any planning.
  • New features that justify the jump: artificial intelligence, guided VAT return, ESG tracking. They are described on the Odoo 19 page.

Should you migrate from Odoo 18 now?

If your database is stable, there is no rush today. The real goal is to avoid an emergency on the day support ends, especially on Odoo.sh where the platform expects a supported version.

  • You have little custom development: the migration is light, plan it within the year.
  • You have many custom or third-party modules: start the inventory now, as it dictates the timetable.
  • You are waiting for a feature from Odoo 19 or Odoo 20: aim directly for the target version, in two controlled jumps.
  • You run on a dedicated server: you keep control of the date. Choose it according to how exposed your database is and to your quiet periods.

Our full approach, from audit to go-live, is detailed on the Odoo migration page.

How do you migrate to Odoo 18 from Odoo 17 or Odoo 16?

1

Inventory

List of custom and third-party modules, custom reports, connectors and web pages under /odoo. This inventory dictates the timetable.

2

Choosing the target

Odoo 18 is a mandatory technical step from Odoo 17. For a project starting today, we compare Odoo 19 and Odoo 20 against your module list and treat Odoo 18 as a transit step.

3

Controlled jumps

Each jump is replayed on a copy of the database, tested by your key users on their real flows, corrected and replayed until signed off.

4

Go-live

The switch is prepared to protect operations: our industrial reference migrated its ERP in two months with no interruption of activity. The Odoo 17 page details the situation of databases still on that version.

Frequently asked questions about Odoo 18

Yes. It is one of the three latest major versions maintained by the publisher, along with Odoo 19 and Odoo 20. Released in October 2024, it gets three years of standard support, until September 2027 according to the publisher's planned schedule.

The Odoo.sh platform requires a supported version. The migration therefore goes into your calendar before that deadline. We prepare it with you so that it runs without any rush.

Your database keeps running. The publisher stops publishing security fixes, which matters all the more when your instance is exposed on the internet and your data is sensitive. We advise planning the migration rather than having it forced on you.

Readable URLs under /odoo, passkey login, combo products and commission plans in Sales, OCR reading of bank statements and Peppol sending in Accounting, the complete redesign of the till and the 60 new website building blocks.

Two: Odoo 18 to Odoo 19, then Odoo 19 to Odoo 20. Each one is tested separately on a copy of the database. Odoo 19 remains a technical step even if your users do not stop there.

Public pages located under the /odoo prefix conflict with the backoffice. They are redirected or moved during the migration. The redesigned themes and new building blocks often make it a good time to refresh the site.

Plan before it becomes urgent
