Odoo ERP for trading companies
You buy, store and resell: your margin is won or lost on a few points. Your cash flow rests on the turnover of your items.
An Odoo ERP brings purchasing, multi-warehouse inventory management, sales management and accounting together in a single database: one management software for the trader and the wholesale distributor alike. It makes your margin visible item by item and customer by customer, instead of discovering it at month end.
ANOR deploys Odoo with 63 years of Odoo combined across its partners. As an Odoo integrator, we first handle your trading constraints within the standard: different purchase and sales units, cascading discounts, transport disputes. We only consider custom development as a last resort.
Which ERP scope for a trader or a wholesaler?
Short answer: five apps cover the essentials for a trading SME: Purchase, Inventory, Sales, Accounting and Invoicing. CRM and eCommerce are added afterwards, in batches.
Splitting into batches avoids the tunnel effect. The first batch puts day-to-day activity into Odoo: supplier orders, receipts, stock, quotes, deliveries and invoices. The following batches enrich it: margin management, payment reminders, online channel. Each batch has its own go-live date.
| App | Role in trading | Typical batch |
|---|---|---|
| Purchase | Suppliers, requests for quotation, replenishment | Batch 1 |
| Inventory | Warehouses, locations, lots and serial numbers | Batch 1 |
| Sales | Quotes, price lists, discounts | Batch 1 |
| Accounting | Margin, VAT, reconciliation, reminders | Batch 2 |
| CRM | Sales pipeline, follow-ups | Batch 2 |
| eCommerce | Online channel on the same stock | Batch 3 |
The timeline depends on the number of warehouses, the quality of your item master data and the data migration. A restricted first batch can start from 8 weeks. We quote it after a 30-minute conversation, never blindly.
Your trading challenges, handled in the Odoo ERP
Each challenge is linked to the app that handles it.
Margin known at order time
Cost price is calculated at receipt and the margin is shown on each sales line. Purchase prices, landed costs and supplier discounts stop living in separate files.
Reliable stock, from warehouse to system
Locations, cycle counts, lots, serial numbers and reservation at order. Physical and accounting stock reconcile without stopping activity.
Replenishment with tooling
Minimum stock rules, supplier lead times and requests for quotation: Odoo proposes the purchase orders and you decide. Stock-outs become exceptions.
Customer prices under control
Price lists by customer, volume or period, configured discounts: no more prices re-keyed by hand on the quote.
One stock for all channels
Online shop, telephone orders, field sales force: a common product reference and availability.
Leaving a legacy ERP
Migration of partners, items, stock and outstanding balances, cutover on a closing date: migration is a project in its own right, with its own method.
B2B sales and customer relations in trading
Wholesalers, importers, traders: your professional customers expect the same service they get online. Odoo provides it on the same stock.
Self-service B2B catalogue
Your customers order online with their prices, their volume discounts and their history, on the real availability of stock.
Customer portal
Quotes to accept, orders, invoices and delivery tracking available independently: fewer inbound calls, more time to sell.
Automated payment reminders
Reminder levels, letters and emails scheduled by receivable age. Outstanding balances are managed without a spreadsheet.
Margin by product, supplier or salesperson
Purchase cost and margin are visible on each order line, then analysed by item, by supplier and by salesperson.
Sales commissions
Commission plans calculated on sales or on payments received, tracked from the CRM and the dashboards.
Several companies, one database
Subsidiaries, import and distribution entities: each company keeps its own accounts, the group reads a consolidated view without double entry.
What the standard covers and what is scoped upfront
We prefer to state the limits before signature. In trading, three topics come up again and again and deserve scoping from the diagnostic phase:
- Year-end rebates: discounts, credit notes and price lists can be configured. Calculating a rebate on cumulative targets often requires specific configuration, or even development. We say so during scoping.
- Supplier EDI: an existing data exchange is kept through a connector or a dedicated interface. The format and frequency are checked before quotation.
- Returnable containers: they are handled with dedicated items and credit note rules. The level of detail expected is decided with your teams.
The starting point remains the same: clean item master data. Duplicates, inconsistent units and approximate supplier references produce wrong stock, whatever the ERP. This clean-up is done before deployment, not during it.
This scoping is consulting work, not configuration. ANOR starts with a free situation audit, then proposes where needed a process review of 3 to 8 weeks: purchase-stock-sales flow, pricing rules, data to migrate. The ERP choice and the requirements document are written on that basis.
The Odoo applications of a trading company

| Purchase | Requests for quotation, blanket orders, receipt and vendor bill follow-up | Batch 1 |
| Accounting | Invoicing, VAT, currencies, bank reconciliation, customer reminders | Batch 1 |
| CRM | Account pipeline, follow-ups, open deals tracking | Batch 2 |
| B2B eCommerce | Customer portal, restricted catalogue and prices, online reordering | Batch 2 |

How ANOR runs a trading project
1
Diagnostic
Purchase-stock-sales flow, prices, EDI, channels: an Odoo consultant records what exists and what causes problems, during a free situation audit.
2
Scope in batches
Batch 1 puts day-to-day activity into Odoo. The following ones enrich it, each with its own date.
3
Data migration
Partners, items, stock and outstanding balances are cleaned and then loaded, with temporary double entry if necessary.
4
Cutover and follow-up
Go-live on a closing date, then support and maintenance after start-up.
Practical examples at a trading company
- A price specific to each customer, by quantity and currency, applied as soon as the quotation is entered with the line margin visible.
- A direct delivery: the customer order triggers the purchase from the supplier, who ships to the customer without going through stock.
- A supplier blanket order followed batch by batch, with receipts and vendor bill control.
- An automatic customer reminder on overdue invoices, with the outstanding balance visible on the account record.
- A margin dashboard by customer, by product family and by salesperson.

Traders' questions
The questions that come up at the start of a trading project.
An ERP for trading has to keep three promises: accurate stock, customer prices applied without re-keying and a margin known at order time. Odoo keeps them as standard, with multi-warehouse inventory management, price lists and the margin on every sales line.
That is what makes it a management software suited to traders, wholesale distributors and importers, from an SME with a handful of users to a multi-company mid-cap. The starting scope is set during a 30-minute conversation.
Yes. You can buy by the carton and sell by the unit: the conversion is automatic and stock valuation remains consistent.
Yes. Each warehouse can have its own replenishment rules. Every movement is traced end to end.
Discounts, credit notes and customer terms are configured in Odoo. Calculating a rebate on cumulative targets depends on your rules: it may require specific configuration or a small development.
We identify it during the diagnostic so that no parallel spreadsheet remains after go-live.
Yes, through a connector or a dedicated interface. This point is scoped during the diagnostic, not discovered mid-project.
The Odoo "Custom" licence costs €35.90 per user per month for the first year, then €44.90 from the second year. Purchase, inventory, sales, multi-company and external APIs are included.
The integration budget depends on your scope: it is quoted after a 30-minute conversation.
Yes. With the eCommerce app, each customer finds their prices, discounts and history. From the portal they accept quotes, view invoices and track deliveries. The exact scope is set according to your commercial rules.
Yes. Margin is shown on each order line and analysed by salesperson, product or supplier. Commission plans are configured on sales or on payments received. The rules specific to your sales force are checked at diagnosis.
