Production management with Odoo: a workshop that keeps its deadlines and its margins

Producing means coordinating materials, machines and people in real time, with constraints that change. Every incident is kept under control when information flows fast enough.

Production management with Odoo brings together bills of materials, manufacturing orders, shop floor, quality, maintenance, planning, purchasing and stock in a single platform. A late supplier, a breakdown or a non-conforming lot is seen immediately where decisions are made, instead of being discovered in an export at the end of the week. It is a complete production management system, with MRP and shop-floor control built into the ERP.

ANOR deploys Odoo in production environments with consultants who come from industry. Our most recent customer case: a ten-person industrial manufacturer, migrated in two months, with no interruption of activity, with seven modules. Before any configuration, we offer a complimentary situation audit on your shop floor: flows, bills of materials and bottlenecks mapped on site.

Integrated production management software: what you gain from the start

Shop floor visibility

Status of manufacturing orders, progress operation by operation, work centre load at the moment you look.

Full traceability

From the raw material lot to the shipped product: lot and serial numbers, upstream and downstream traceability in one click.

Quality in the flow

Checks are triggered at the right time, quality alerts are traced and corrective actions followed up.

Secured supply

Real needs drive supplier orders and manufacturing orders. Stock-outs become exceptions.

Real cost price

Materials consumed, time spent and overheads flow into accounting: margin per item is read on true figures.

Quick to adopt

Real-time tracking and lot traceability

What happens on the shop floor must be visible immediately to those who decide. The Manufacturing app and its Shop Floor interface give that visibility with no re-keying.

  • Shop floor boards: operations in progress, waiting, late, per work centre, on a tablet or a large screen.
  • Operator station: work instructions, routings, component consumption, time spent, scrap and production declaration, recorded from the operator's screen.
  • Lots and serial numbers: full product genealogy, history of consumption and transformation, upstream and downstream traceability report.
  • Equipment effectiveness: productive time, losses and overall equipment effectiveness per work centre, calculated by Odoo.

Planning, scheduling, stock management and procurement

Your workshops' load must be balanced, not accumulated. Odoo's Master Production Schedule and requirements calculation plan on what is genuinely feasible.

  • Scheduling: work orders planned per work centre according to capacity, working calendars and priorities, with a Gantt view to smooth peaks.
  • Requirements calculation: manufacturing orders and purchase orders are proposed from customer orders, forecasts and stock, with a make-or-buy decision.
  • Replenishment rules: trigger thresholds per item and per warehouse, supplier lead times built in, to secure continuity without overstocking.
  • Perpetual inventory: every movement is valued, multi-warehouse and multi-site consolidated, planned transfers, barcode scanner at receipt and picking.

Purchasing follows the same flow: requests for quotation, offer comparison, purchase agreements and supplier invoice control in the Purchase app. Subcontracted operations are managed with dedicated bills of materials and tracking of components sent to the subcontractor. The detail is on the Odoo Manufacturing page.

Quality, maintenance and product lifecycle

Quality is a step in every flow

  • Configurable control points at supplier receipt, during manufacturing, at each operation or before shipping, per item or per family.
  • Check types: pass or fail, measurement with tolerances, photo, instructions, worksheet to be filled in by the operator.
  • Quality alerts traced in a kanban by stage, with corrective and preventive actions, owner and deadline.

A stopped machine is a schedule that moves

  • Preventive maintenance planned by frequency, corrective maintenance triggered from the work centre, history per piece of equipment.
  • Equipment is attached to the shop floor work centres: a maintenance request is created from the work order and the downtime is visible in the schedule.

Your products evolve, the history stays

  • The PLM app manages engineering change orders: versions of bills of materials and routings, revision comparison, approval flow.
  • Technical documents centralised on the item, the bill of materials or the operation, visible to the operator when needed.

How ANOR deploys Odoo in production

1

On-site diagnostic

Bills of materials, routings, stock flows, quality checks and maintenance plan recorded with your managers, on the shop floor.

2

Clean master data

Items, bills of materials and work centres cleaned and loaded. This is the phase that decides the reliability of the requirements calculation.

3

Pilot on one line

A first complete flow, from customer order to shipment, replayed by your operators on their own products.

4

Cutover without a stop

Go-live on a stock closing date, reinforced presence on the shop floor in the first days, then support over time.

Concrete examples on the shop floor

  • Launching a manufacturing order with component reservation, configured intermediate checks and serial label printing at output.
  • Supply plan calculated on the order book and stock levels, with an automatic make-or-buy decision.
  • Quality dashboard: non-conformity rate per supplier, per operation and per product, with the actions in progress.
  • Preventive maintenance calendar per piece of equipment, corrective requests from the work centre, full history of interventions.
  • Management reporting: service rate, overall equipment effectiveness of work centres, scrap rate, on-time delivery.

Odoo 20 AI for production

Odoo 20 embeds AI in a particularly advanced way: AI agents in the applications, AI-computed fields and connection to external tools through the MCP protocol. Your production benefit without heavy development: we check with you which uses bring a real gain before enabling them.

Production managers' questions

Yes. Odoo's traceability report goes up from a finished product to the raw material lots consumed and down from a supplier lot to all the products that used it. The history of operations, checks and people involved is kept.

Yes. Scheduling includes the capacity of each work centre, cycle times, working calendars and setup times. You plan on what is genuinely feasible and you see the bottlenecks in the Gantt view.

The requirements calculation proposes manufacturing orders and purchase orders from customer orders, forecasts and real stock. Replenishment rules per item and per warehouse include your supplier lead times.

It is built in. Control points are triggered in the manufacturing order, at receipt or before shipping. The operator records the result on their screen and quality alerts feed the dashboards in real time.

Yes. Each warehouse has its own stock rules, work centres and calendars. A bill of materials can be specific to a site or shared. Overall steering remains available to management.

From eight weeks for a restricted first batch to several months for a multi-workshop site. Our fastest migration took four months, with no downtime. The timeline depends above all on the quality of your bills of materials and the availability of your key users.

Yes. The Manufacturing app covers the functions of a production management system: multi-level bills of materials, routings, manufacturing orders, work centres, requirements planning and scheduling. Its advantage over a standalone system is integration: sales, purchasing, stock and accounting live in the same database, with no interface to maintain.

With a review of the real flows: from customer order to shipment, through procurement and manufacturing. Our organisation consulting runs this process review with your managers, then scoping sets the first batch. The on-site situation audit is complimentary.
