Odoo Manufacturing: run your workshop without a parallel spreadsheet
Multi-level bills of materials, manufacturing orders, actual time spent and a cost price that is calculated rather than estimated.
This page describes what the Odoo 20 Manufacturing app, the ERP's MRP module, can do as production management software, its real limits and what we configure for our industrial clients. It is aimed at industrial directors, workshop managers and planners.
Six strengths of Odoo Manufacturing
Multi-level bills of materials
A sub-assembly made in-house is itself a bill of materials. Odoo walks down the tree as many levels as needed, where a spreadsheet quickly becomes unreadable.
A workshop schedule you can keep
Work centres, capacities and standard durations let you see the load before promising a date.
Calculated cost price
Materials consumed, time recorded and work centre cost give the margin per reference, with no rule-of-thumb coefficient.
Lot and serial number traceability
From the supplier lot to the customer delivered, going back through the manufacturing order. In the event of a recall, the lots and customers concerned can be found from the manufacturing order.
Shop-floor entry on tablet
In the Shop Floor app (Enterprise), operators clock the start and end of each operation with the drawing and routing in front of them. No more paper sheets re-keyed on Fridays.
Replenishment tied to production
Material requirements derive from planned orders, not from a fixed minimum stock. Stock-outs become exceptions.
The manufacturing order, from A to Z
A single document follows production: the product, the bill of materials, the components to consume and the order status.

1Order status
Draft, confirmed, in progress, done: the state reads at the top right.
2Actions
The buttons offered change with the state of the order.
3Components
Quantities to consume and consumed for each bill-of-materials line.
4Finished product
Product, bill of materials, quantity and lot number on the same screen.
What does Odoo Manufacturing cover in production management?
Short answer: Odoo Manufacturing covers bills of materials, routings, manufacturing orders, work centres, subcontracting and cost price. It connects to Inventory, Purchase, Quality and Maintenance.
Odoo Manufacturing is included in Odoo's "Custom" plan: €35.90 per user per month for the first year, then €44.90 from the second year. All apps are included.
- Linked apps: Inventory, Purchase, Quality (Enterprise), Maintenance
- Real prerequisite: up-to-date bills of materials and routings. Without them, nothing works
- Go-live: the duration depends on the number of bills of materials and the quality of the routings
Points to scope before starting
Advanced finite-capacity scheduling
beyond a certain level of complexity, an external planning tool is still needed.
Real-time MES connected to machines
automatic feedback from PLCs requires dedicated development.
Graphical product configurator
variants are managed through attributes, which is rarely enough for heavy made-to-order work.
Bills of materials and routings
nothing works without them being up to date. That is an organisational task, not a configuration one.
The problem you recognise: the workshop runs, but nobody knows what a part costs
Manufacturing orders live in an Excel workbook kept by the workshop manager. Times are noted on paper sheets, re-keyed when someone has a moment. The cost price dates from the last serious calculation, before material prices went up. The result: you accept orders whose margin you do not know and you may be turning down the good ones.
On industrial projects, what blocks progress is rarely the application. It is bills of materials that nobody has updated since the design office left and an approval flow that exists only in the workshop manager's head. We deal with this upstream, in a process review: a free situation audit on the shop floor, then scoping of bills of materials and routings with an Odoo consultant. The ANOR method for deploying Odoo Manufacturing
1
Workshop scoping
Bills of materials, routings, work centres and time clocking are surveyed on the shop floor with the workshop manager.
2
Data cleansing
Items, bills of materials and routings are updated before loading. This is the most decisive step.
3
Configuration and testing
Manufacturing orders, work centres, subcontracting and traceability are configured, then tested on real products.
4
Cutover without downtime
Go-live is prepared on a copied database and played out on a cut-off date, to avoid any interruption of production.
Odoo 20 AI for manufacturing
Odoo 20 embeds AI in a particularly advanced way: AI agents in the applications, AI-computed fields and connection to external tools through the MCP protocol. Your production benefit without heavy development: we check with you which uses bring a real gain before enabling them.
Frequently asked questions about Odoo Manufacturing
Yes. A component made in-house has its own bill of materials and Odoo triggers the child manufacturing orders.
Yes. Sending components, receiving finished parts and tracking work in progress at the subcontractor are handled like a production operation.
Yes, from the components consumed, the times recorded and the cost of the work centres. The quality of the result depends on the quality of your bills of materials and your time clocking.
Yes, through dedicated development. As standard, reporting goes through the shop-floor tablet or an API; automatic feedback from PLCs is scoped as a custom development.
For most SMEs, planning by work centre is enough. For fine scheduling across several constraints, an interfaced external tool remains preferable.
Yes. Bills of materials and manufacturing orders, routings, work centres, subcontracting, traceability and cost price cover production management for an SME, in the same database as purchasing, stock and accounting. Odoo MRP is included in the "Custom" licence and is complemented by the Quality and Maintenance apps.
Odoo Manufacturing is included in the "Custom" licence at €35.90 per user per month for the first year, then €44.90 from the second year. The integration cost depends on the number of bills of materials and routings: it is quoted after a 30-minute conversation.
