Montpellier and Hérault: a diverse economic landscape for an ERP

Montpellier's business fabric is unlike any other city in the south of France. High-growth tech startups, a healthcare and medical research sector of European standing, Languedoc viticulture and wine trading, Mediterranean food and drink, coastal and mountain tourism, a construction industry driven by record population growth, business services: each sector makes very different demands of an ERP.

Tech and fast-growing businesses

Montpellier's scale-ups need recurring billing, configurable subscriptions and a CRM capable of handling a prospect base that doubles year on year. Odoo 20 meets these needs natively, with no bespoke development required for standard use cases.

Healthcare and medical research

Healthcare organisations and laboratories require traceability, document quality control and regulatory compliance. Odoo's Quality module centralises non-conformities, procedures and alerts, where spreadsheets begin to fail at the first audit.

Languedoc viticulture and wine trading

Wine trading comes with specific constraints: lot and vintage management, excise duties, export customs declarations and multiple packaging formats. An Odoo ERP for Hérault must speak the language of winemakers and merchants, not just accountants.

Construction and food & drink

Strong population growth fuels a construction sector hungry for quoting, project scheduling and budget tracking tools. The Mediterranean food and drink industry, for its part, requires stock management that is sensitive to expiry dates and geographical origins.

Four key challenges for SMEs and mid-sized companies in Montpellier

Beneath the diversity of sectors, four challenges come up consistently in our first conversations with businesses in Hérault.

Rapid growth and scaling up

A startup that grows from ten to fifty employees in two years needs an ERP that scales with it: subscriptions, CRM, invoicing and financial management in a single tool, without any rearchitecting.

Wine lots and export trading

Managing lots by vintage, producing excise duty documents and overseeing international shipments: an Odoo ERP for Occitanie must cover the regulatory and logistics requirements of Languedoc wine trading.

Quality and healthcare compliance

Healthcare and medical research organisations must demonstrate the traceability of every document and every process. Odoo centralises the evidence without multiplying the tools.

Construction projects and budget tracking

A project running without real-time budget visibility is an overspend waiting to happen. Odoo connects the quote, purchases, timesheets and accounting in one continuous workflow.

Odoo 20 includes all these applications under a single licence. They communicate with each other with no connector to maintain.

From organisation consulting to ongoing support: how ANOR works in Montpellier

ANOR is an Odoo consulting and integration firm. Organisation and process consulting is independent of Odoo: it serves businesses that want to clarify their workflows before choosing a tool. That is often the most valuable starting point, particularly for a fast-growing SME that has never formalised its processes.

Our consultants work remotely for the majority of interactions and travel to Montpellier at key stages: on-site scoping, go-live preparation and production launch. This approach ensures responsiveness without inflating travel costs.

Once Odoo is live, ANOR's support service takes over with structured remote assistance. Functional enhancements, additional training and bespoke developments are part of an ongoing relationship, not a one-off engagement.

An Odoo project in Montpellier: four clear stages

1

First call by video – 30 minutes

An ANOR consultant listens to your situation, your sectors and your priorities. No sales pitch: a qualification conversation that leads to a scoping proposal if the project makes sense.

2

Scoping and kick-off on site

ANOR travels to Montpellier to meet the teams, document key processes and lay the foundations for configuration. This on-site time is short and intensive: it sets the quality of everything that follows.

3

Configuration and training remotely

Configuration takes place in short module-by-module sessions with regular sign-offs. User training is woven in throughout the rollout so that teams build their skills progressively.

4

Go-live with on-site presence

On the day of the switch-over, an ANOR consultant is present in Montpellier to resolve any blockers in real time. After go-live, remote support takes over for day-to-day questions and adjustments.

Odoo 20: the technical foundation that gives Hérault businesses confidence

Odoo 20 is built on PostgreSQL, a high-performance open-source database and Python, the leading language for artificial intelligence. This architecture provides a stable, auditable and future-proof foundation with no dependency on a proprietary vendor.

The AI built into Odoo 20 is particularly advanced: the Enterprise edition includes 52 artificial intelligence modules covering sales, purchasing, stock, project management, helpdesk and email marketing. For a young Montpellier business looking to automate follow-ups or forecast stock requirements, this is a tangible advantage from day one.

Both editions, Community and Enterprise, are open source: Community under the LGPL licence, Enterprise under the OPL licence with readable source code. Any bespoke developments belong to you.

Frequently asked questions – Odoo ERP Montpellier and Hérault

Yes. The ANOR team works across France. Day-to-day project management is handled remotely and we travel to Montpellier for the stages where being physically present makes a real difference: on-site scoping, team kick-off and production go-live. No local office is registered at this time, but that has never been an obstacle to a successful project.

That is actually one of its strengths. Odoo 20 lets you start with a few modules (CRM, Sales, Accounting) and add functionality as you grow, without switching ERP. The Odoo Custom licence, offered by the publisher at €35.90 per user per month in the first year and €44.90 from the second year onwards, includes all applications, multi-company support and external APIs. No extra charge for adding modules.

Odoo natively manages lot and serial number tracking, which is essential for vintage management, as well as taxes and regulatory export documents. Bespoke developments can complement the standard configuration to cover the excise duty declarations specific to the French wine trade. We scope this precisely during the first conversation.

The only public price is the Odoo licence: the Custom offer is priced by the publisher at €35.90 per user per month in the first year, then €44.90 from the second year onwards. The integration cost depends on the functional scope, the state of your data and how specific your processes are. We do not publish a price range without understanding your situation first: book 30 minutes – it is the quickest way to get a clear picture.

Yes. ANOR has completed ERP migrations in two months with no interruption to business activity. The duration depends on the volume of data, the number of modules and the custom elements to carry across. As a general rule, a migration takes between two and nine months. A migration from a system that has stayed close to the standard can sometimes be completed in a single day. We establish this timeline at the very start of the project.

ANOR covers Odoo versions 5 to 20, spanning sixteen versions. Odoo 20 is the current version we recommend as the priority. Odoo 18 and 19 remain supported by the publisher. Odoo 17 is no longer supported since the release of Odoo 20. If you are still on Odoo 16 or an earlier version, migration is urgent: those versions no longer receive security patches.
