COMPARISON · ODOO VS PRESTASHOP
Odoo or PrestaShop: how to choose
PrestaShop is the leading French open-source eCommerce platform: it does the job very well when the shop is your only concern. As soon as an ERP handles stock, purchasing and accounting behind the scenes, consolidating everything in Odoo eCommerce is simpler, more reliable and less costly.
The ANOR partners spent years as PrestaShop integrators alongside Odoo. We know how to connect the two tools. We nevertheless recommend switching everything to Odoo as soon as business management enters the picture. This page explains why, honestly.
Our business is Odoo integration, so we are not a neutral party. This page also covers what PrestaShop does well and when it is enough.
Odoo or PrestaShop: the straight answer
If you are opening an online shop with no back-office management system, PrestaShop is a solid choice. If you already manage stock, purchasing and accounting, or plan to soon, consolidating everything in Odoo eliminates the constant synchronisation between two tools and the data mismatches that come with it.
The question is not which tool is better but what you need around the shop. PrestaShop excels in its domain. Odoo eCommerce is not a shop bolted onto an ERP: it is a single database that powers the storefront, stock, invoicing and customer relationships all at once.
What PrestaShop does well
Before any honest comparison, here is what genuinely makes PrestaShop strong.
A French open-source eCommerce solution
PrestaShop is developed in France, released under an open-source licence and deployed worldwide. Its code is accessible, auditable and modifiable.
A very large module and theme ecosystem
The PrestaShop marketplace offers thousands of modules and themes. Most common eCommerce needs can be met without custom development.
An active and well-documented community
The French-speaking community is one of the most active in open-source. Finding documentation, forums and service providers is straightforward.
An interface built for eCommerce
The product, variant, promotion and carrier management interface is designed with merchants in mind. The learning curve remains reasonable for a team dedicated to the shop.
Where Odoo goes much further
The PrestaShop-Odoo connector: a bridge that costs dearly
We have built and maintained PrestaShop-Odoo connectors. The idea is appealing: keep your PrestaShop store and synchronise stock, prices, orders and customers with the ERP. In practice, every update to either system creates a risk of desynchronisation. A stock figure not reflected correctly, an order stuck between two systems, a duplicated customer: anomalies accumulate and fixing them absorbs time and money with every version update.
Odoo eCommerce: one database, zero synchronisation
With Odoo eCommerce, the shop and the ERP share the same database. When an order comes in, stock is reduced instantly, an invoice is created and the customer exists in the CRM, with no data transfer involved. No connector, no risk of discrepancy.
B2B and B2C on the same site
Odoo natively handles two types of customer on a single storefront: a retail customer sees public prices, while a reseller logged into their account sees their negotiated rates, payment terms and order history. PrestaShop can do this with additional modules; Odoo does it in the core product, without complex configuration.
A real-world migration case
A distributor was running its B2C shop on PrestaShop and managing B2B customers in Excel files. Migrating to Odoo brought B2B customers, their history and their negotiated prices into the same environment as the shop. The sales team no longer needs to switch between two data sources to check a customer account.
Comparison table by criterion
| Criterion | PrestaShop | Odoo eCommerce + ERP |
|---|---|---|
| Positioning | Specialist online shop | eCommerce integrated with the full business |
| Scope | Online sales, promotions, carriers, catalogue | eCommerce, CRM, stock, purchasing, accounting, manufacturing and HR in one database |
| Stock and order synchronisation | Via external connector, risk of desynchronisation | Real time, same database, no connector needed |
| B2B and B2C | Possible with third-party modules | Native, on the same site, with per-customer pricing and terms |
| Integrated accounting | No (connection to a third-party tool required) | Yes, native, including electronic invoicing |
| Flexibility and extensibility | Many modules and themes, but scope limited to eCommerce | Native modules for the whole business, custom development without touching the core |
| Hosting and code | Open source, self-hosted or publisher SaaS | Community and Enterprise editions with open code; Odoo Online, Odoo.sh or dedicated server |
| Target company size | Shops of any size focused on the online channel | SMEs and mid-market companies that want to manage the whole business from one tool |
Unmatched flexibility in the eCommerce world
PrestaShop offers many modules, but they stop at the boundary of the shop. Odoo covers the entire business in a single environment, with several layers of customisation.
- Native configuration: pricing rules, price lists, customer portals, automatic follow-ups and personalised dashboards, all without a line of code.
- Official and community modules: more than 50 native applications cover sales, stock, production, accounting, HR and many other areas.
- Custom development without touching the core: customisations are added as a layer above the Odoo core, which protects upgrades. See our custom development page.
- Open APIs: the Custom plan includes external APIs, making it possible to connect Odoo to any third-party tool when there is a genuine need.
- Controlled version upgrades: ANOR has mastered Odoo from version 5 to version 20. Upgrading a system that has stayed close to the standard can take a single day.
Odoo 20 also includes particularly advanced AI: 52 AI modules in the Enterprise edition, operational agents for sales, stock and purchasing, AI-calculated fields and an MCP connection. PostgreSQL handles database performance and Python, the framework language, is also the dominant language of modern AI.

Frequently asked questions: Odoo or PrestaShop
A connector solves the problem in the short term but keeps it alive. Every PrestaShop or ERP update risks breaking the synchronisation: stock discrepancies, duplicate orders, customers not transferred. Fixing these issues takes time and often requires a third-party provider. Odoo eliminates the problem at the root: the shop and the ERP share the same database, with no transfer between two systems.
No, provided the redirects are handled correctly. Every PrestaShop URL (product, category, CMS page) must be redirected with a 301 to its Odoo equivalent. Odoo eCommerce generates clean, structured URLs. The SEO work you have accumulated is largely preserved if the migration is carefully prepared.
Yes. Odoo natively manages product variants (colour, size, material and so on) with per-variant pricing rules and images. Migrating PrestaShop variants is a standard part of the migration process and is planned from the initial scoping.
Yes, natively. An anonymous visitor sees public prices. A professional customer logged into their account sees their negotiated rates, payment terms and order history. There is no need for two separate shops or a third-party module.
Between two and nine months, depending on the complexity of the catalogue, the number of references, the volume of customers and the features to replicate. A limited first batch can go live in eight weeks. We assess the exact timeline during the situation audit. See also our Odoo migration page.
Yes. Migrating order history is part of our standard migration methodology. The data is cleaned, transformed and loaded into Odoo so that your teams can find their customers and past orders from day one.
