What was the need?

The company is a small industrial production business. Its existing ERP had to be replaced and its activity could not stop during the project.

An ERP migration is often dreaded because it can tie up teams for weeks. For an industrial SME, every day of production counts. The outcome of this project is known: no days of downtime.

How is an ERP migration without downtime carried out?

The project took two months. It is the fastest migration in our portfolio. Seven Odoo modules were deployed, covering the company's activity.

Our method rests on three principles.

  • A scope limited to the essentials for go-live, instead of a project covering every use case from day one.
  • Data migration prepared in advance, so that the switchover does not tie up the production teams.
  • A cutover organised so that activity continues without interruption.

These three principles are settled at project scoping, before Odoo configuration: it is the consulting side of our work, with a process review that states what the new ERP must reproduce and what it can simplify. A small organisation generally makes quick decisions and the involvement of all users easier. It is a favourable factor, not a guarantee. The full approach is described on our Odoo migration page.

We migrated our ERP in two months, without interrupting our activity.

What this case shows and what it does not say

This case shows that a fast ERP migration with no downtime is realistic for a small production company with a well-defined scope, with data migration prepared in advance and a go-live organised by an Odoo integrator who knows the business.

It does not say that such a timeline applies to every situation. An ERP migration generally takes 2 to 9 months and a multi-site project or one with a high volume of custom development may take much longer. Technical details and amounts remain confidential: they depend on each company's scope.

This case shows that you do not, provided data migration is prepared in advance and the cutover is organised in a slot chosen with the teams. The new ERP is tested on real cases before go-live, while the old one keeps serving the business.

The cost depends on the scope, the volume of data to migrate and the custom developments to plan. The amounts of this case remain confidential. A free on-site situation audit, followed by a thirty-minute conversation, lets us scope your own project on real foundations.
