COMPARISON · ODOO VS ZOHO
Odoo or Zoho: how to choose
Zoho offers a well-regarded suite of online applications, particularly appreciated for its CRM and international reach. When a French SME needs a truly integrated ERP, accounting that complies with French law and full control over its hosting, Odoo goes considerably further.
Our business is implementing Odoo, so we are not a neutral party. This page also covers what Zoho does well and when it is enough. We believe you deserve an honest comparison so you can make an informed decision.
Odoo or Zoho: the straight answer
International business whose core focus is customer relationship management and team collaboration: Zoho is worth a serious look. French SME that wants an ERP integrated all the way through to accounting, electronic invoicing and industrial production: Odoo is the natural choice.
Zoho One bundles several dozen online applications covering CRM, finance, stock, customer support, marketing and collaboration. It is a suite built by aggregation: each application is designed separately and connected to the others through internal connectors.
Odoo works differently: all applications share a single database and a common data model. A sales order automatically creates the delivery note, the invoice and the accounting entry, with no intermediate synchronisation required.
What Zoho does well
Zoho is a serious player that has been active in the global market for many years. These strengths are genuine.
A recognised and mature CRM
Zoho CRM regularly appears among the most cited customer relationship management tools in international comparisons. Its pipeline, automations and dashboards are appreciated by sales teams.
A very broad application suite
Zoho One brings together dozens of applications: messaging, electronic signature, forms, video conferencing, project management and HR. A business can cover a wide range of needs under a single contract.
An attractive bundled offer
Zoho One's pricing model is designed to give access to the entire suite. For current pricing, check directly with the publisher, as it changes regularly.
International ecosystem
Zoho operates in many countries and offers interfaces in several languages. For businesses operating outside France, this international presence is an asset.
Quick to get started
Most Zoho applications are available directly as SaaS with no installation required. The time to reach the first features is short, which suits teams that need to move fast.
Integrations and API
Zoho offers connectors to many third-party tools and an API for developers. Businesses working with a varied application ecosystem can rely on these.
Where Odoo goes considerably further
A single data model, not a connected suite
The architectural difference is fundamental. In Zoho, applications communicate with each other through synchronisations: a sale in Zoho CRM must be transmitted to Zoho Books to generate an invoice. In Odoo, sales, invoicing, stock and accounting all share the same PostgreSQL database. There is nothing to synchronise: consistency is built in.
Full French localisation
Odoo includes accounting that complies with French law: the French chart of accounts, the FEC (fichier des écritures comptables), VAT on receipts and on debits and electronic invoicing via an approved platform. These are not third-party modules: they are part of the application core. For a French SME subject to the electronic invoicing obligation, this is non-negotiable.
Manufacturing and industrial management
Odoo covers manufacturing with bills of materials, manufacturing orders, routing, work centre tracking and scrap management. This industrial scope has no equivalent in the Zoho suite.
Hosting choice and open source code
The Community and Enterprise editions of Odoo are open source. You can host your ERP on Odoo Online, on Odoo.sh (with test environments and continuous deployment) or on a dedicated server in France. Zoho is only available as SaaS on the publisher's infrastructure: you have no control over hosting or code.
A network of integrators in France
Odoo has a dense network of certified partners in France. You can choose your integrator, compare offerings and switch provider without changing your ERP. This is not the case with Zoho, whose partner network is less structured across French territory.

A flexibility that a SaaS suite cannot offer
Zoho allows you to configure its applications and use Zoho Creator for automations. But the code remains the publisher's: you work within the limits they set.
With Odoo, flexibility is structural and operates at several levels.
- Native configuration: validation rules, approval workflows, access rights, price lists and units of measure can all be set up without touching the code.
- Modular activation: you activate only the modules you need. The catalogue includes hundreds of official and third-party applications.
- Custom development preserved: bespoke developments are isolated from the Odoo core. Version upgrades do not overwrite them. The code belongs to your business.
- Documented API: Odoo exposes a JSON-RPC API and a REST API. Your specific business tools connect to them cleanly.
- Sovereign hosting: if your data must remain in France, a dedicated server or Odoo.sh guarantees it. This choice is not possible with Zoho.
This architecture explains why businesses with 10 to several hundred users choose Odoo for bespoke projects that SaaS suites cannot support.
An open, high-performance technical foundation built for AI
Odoo is built on PostgreSQL, a free and extremely high-performance database and on Python, the dominant language in artificial intelligence. This technical choice is not incidental.
Odoo 20 integrates AI in a particularly advanced way: 52 ai* modules in the Enterprise edition, compared with 15 in Odoo 19. Autonomous agents operate across sales, purchasing, stock, project, helpdesk, marketing and calendar. AI-computed fields (ai_fields) continuously enrich data. The MCP protocol (ai_mcp) allows external agents to interact with the ERP.
Zoho also incorporates AI through its Zia assistant. However, Zoho's architecture, distributed across many distinct applications, limits how deeply AI can act across the full set of management data. In Odoo, AI operates on a unified data model: its recommendations and automations reach the ERP in its entirety.
When to choose Zoho and when to choose Odoo
Zoho is a good fit if...
Your priority is CRM and collaboration for sales teams distributed internationally. You have no industrial production and no strong need for certified French accounting. You are looking for a SaaS tool that is quick to deploy for teams already familiar with Google Workspace or Microsoft 365. You do not need your data hosted in France.
Odoo is the right choice if...
You are a French SME or mid-market company that wants an ERP covering CRM, stock, purchasing, accounting and production without re-entering data between modules. You are subject to the electronic invoicing obligation. You want to choose your hosting and keep control over your code. You anticipate specific requirements that standard tools cannot meet.
A situation audit to settle your specific case
General comparisons have their limits. What matters is your organisation, your processes and your regulatory constraints. ANOR offers a complimentary situation audit to assess together whether Odoo is the right choice and in what configuration.
If you are coming from Zoho CRM, data migration is a topic to frame from the outset: contacts, opportunities and activity history. Our consultants have done it before and know what transfers cleanly and what requires prior clean-up work.

What an Odoo licence costs
For Zoho pricing, check directly with the publisher: costs vary depending on the applications and plans selected.
On the Odoo side, the publisher offers the Custom plan at €35.90 per user per month in the first year, then €44.90 from the second year onwards. All applications, multi-company support and external APIs are included. This is the licence price set by the Odoo publisher.
The cost of implementation depends on your scope, your existing data and your specific requirements. See our guide on the cost of an Odoo project to understand what influences the budget, then let's spend 30 minutes scoping your situation.
Frequently asked questions: Odoo or Zoho
Zoho One bundles management applications that cover several ERP functions: sales, stock, finance and HR. However, the architecture remains that of a suite of distinct connected applications, not a unified-database ERP. For businesses with complex cross-functional processes (manufacturing, management accounting, intercompany flows), this difference is felt in day-to-day use.
Zoho Books offers multi-currency accounting with some local adaptations. Precise compliance with French law (FEC, electronic invoicing via an approved platform, VAT according to French rules) should be verified directly with the Zoho publisher for your version and country of deployment. In Odoo, the French localisation is natively integrated and maintained by the publisher.
Yes. Zoho CRM data (contacts, accounts, opportunities, activities and quotes) can be exported as CSV or via the Zoho API. Migration to Odoo requires field-mapping and clean-up work before import. Our consultants guide you through this step: see our page on data migration and our expertise in ERP migration to understand how we approach it.
Yes. Odoo.sh allows you to choose the hosting region. A dedicated server in France is also an option. With Zoho, data is hosted on the publisher's infrastructure: you do not choose the location. For businesses subject to data sovereignty requirements (healthcare, public sector, defence), this point is often decisive.
Odoo. Zoho's flexibility operates within the boundaries set by the publisher. With Odoo, you can develop specific modules that integrate with the core without modifying it, ensuring your customisations survive version upgrades. The code for those developments belongs to you. This is a structural difference, not merely one of degree.
We migrated our ERP in two months with no disruption to operations.
