COMPARISON · ODOO VS CEGID Y2

Odoo or Cegid Y2: how to choose

Cegid Y2 is a well-established name in retail, particularly among fashion, luxury and speciality retailers. Odoo brings together point of sale, eCommerce, stock, CRM and accounting in a single database, giving you one live customer and stock record across every channel with no connector required.

Our business is implementing Odoo, so we have a stake in this. This page also covers what Cegid Y2 does well and when it remains the right choice. The goal is to help you decide based on your real situation, not to sell you a solution at any cost.

This page focuses on Cegid Y2 and retail. If you are looking for a comparison covering Cegid accounting and business management, the page /comparatifs/odoo-vs-cegid is the one for you.

Odoo or Cegid Y2: the straight answer

The question is not which tool is better but which one fits your stage of development and your omnichannel model. Cegid Y2 was designed for larger networks with sophisticated retail processes. Odoo was built to grow with the business, from a single store to a multi-brand network.

What Cegid Y2 does well

Cegid Y2 is not a generalist tool: it is a specialist solution refined through years of work with the most demanding retailers.

Till and network management

Cegid Y2 handles in-store point of sale and the management of a network of outlets with features built for retail: payments, discounts, returns and centralised supervision.

Collection management

Managing collections, seasons and product variants (size, colour, material) is at the heart of Cegid Y2, with tools designed specifically for fashion and speciality retailers.

References in luxury and fashion

Cegid Y2 is widely recognised among fashion, luxury and speciality retailers. Its sector focus gives it genuine credibility and a solid network of references in these markets.

Where Odoo goes much further

Odoo's structural advantage over Cegid Y2 comes from a fundamentally different architecture. Odoo is not a till application connected to an ERP by a connector: it is a single database in which the till, the eCommerce site, stock, purchasing, CRM, loyalty and accounting all live together.

One stock and one customer record across every channel

When a customer buys in store in the morning and checks their order history on the website in the afternoon, there is no synchronisation to trigger. The stock is the same, the customer record is the same and the loyalty programme is the same. This single source of truth eliminates an entire category of problems: stock discrepancies, duplicate customer records and loyalty point errors.

The ANOR touchscreen till with LANDI hardware

ANOR deploys Odoo Point of Sale with the LANDI C20 Pro terminal and its ANOR POS Bridge application, which controls receipt printing, the cash drawer and the customer-facing display. The till works in connected mode and supports offline sessions. All configuration is done once, inside Odoo.

A scope that goes well beyond the till

  • Multi-store touchscreen till with size and colour variant management.
  • Native eCommerce in the same database: no connector between the online shop and physical stock.
  • Purchasing, goods receipt and replenishment directly linked to in-store and online sales.
  • CRM and loyalty: cross-channel customer history, points, coupons and email campaigns from a single tool.
  • Integrated accounting: every sale generates the accounting entry with no re-keying.
  • Consolidated management reports across all stores.

Pricing suited to growing mid-sized networks

The Odoo licence is €35.90 per user per month in the first year (Custom plan, all applications included), rising to €44.90 from the second year onwards. This model is particularly well suited to growing store networks that want to keep their software costs predictable. For Cegid Y2 pricing, contact the publisher directly.

A flexibility Cegid Y2 cannot match

Cegid Y2 is built for retail: that is its strength and its constraint. As soon as a retailer wants to change a process, open an additional channel or connect a specialist tool, it depends on the publisher's capabilities and release schedule.

Configuration without development

In Odoo, many behaviours can be adjusted directly: loyalty rules, price rounding, pricing conditions by network or customer segment and replenishment alerts. No code is needed for the vast majority of adaptations.

Modules activated on demand

When a retailer launches an eCommerce site, starts a loyalty programme or integrates supplier purchasing, they simply activate the relevant modules in Odoo. Those modules already share the same database. There is no integration project to kick off.

Custom developments that do not touch the core

When a business requirement goes beyond the standard, ANOR builds custom modules that sit alongside the Odoo core. Publisher updates do not break these developments. The code belongs to the client.

Open APIs and external connections

Odoo exposes its data through documented REST and XML-RPC APIs. A retailer can connect a marketplace, a business intelligence tool or a customer relationship management system without any additional contract with the publisher.

Odoo's technical foundation: PostgreSQL, Python and AI

Odoo is built on PostgreSQL, a powerful open-source database and Python, the dominant language in artificial intelligence. This is not a trivial technical choice for a retailer handling millions of transactions.

Odoo 20 includes 52 artificial intelligence modules in the Enterprise edition: autonomous agents for sales, purchasing, stock and support, AI-computed fields, an AI action server and a connection to the MCP protocol. For a store network, this translates into replenishment forecasting, restocking suggestions and progressively automated till assistance.

Both the Community and Enterprise editions are open code. The Enterprise code is under the OPL licence and is readable across all modules. No black box.

A real-world example: migrating a speciality distributor to Odoo

A multi-store speciality distributor was using Cegid Y2 for its till and in-store stock, a separate tool for its eCommerce site and a third for its accounting. The three customer databases did not synchronise in real time: web returns processed in store caused daily problems and a consolidated inventory was only available the following morning.

The migration to Odoo 19 brought the till, eCommerce, stock, loyalty and accounting into a single database. Stock became a single live record across all channels. The customer record is shared between the store and the website. Returns are handled seamlessly whether in store or online.

Customer data and loyalty history were migrated before the go-live. To understand how this type of migration is prepared, see our data migration guide.

When to choose Cegid Y2 and when to choose Odoo

Cegid Y2 still makes sense if...

Your retail brand is a large international operation, your retail processes are already industrialised on Y2 and migration costs outweigh the expected gains. The solution handles the load and your teams know it well: the decision is an economic one.

Odoo is the right choice if...

Your store network is growing, you want a single stock and customer record across all channels without connectors, you want to bring the till, eCommerce, purchasing and accounting into one tool and you want to keep your software budget under control.

A situation review to settle the question for your case

The right answer depends on your current network, the level of customisation you have in Cegid Y2 and your omnichannel roadmap. A 30-minute conversation is enough to ask the right questions before going any further.

Frequently asked questions about Odoo vs Cegid Y2

Yes. Odoo Point of Sale works in connected mode and supports offline sessions: if the internet connection drops, the till keeps processing payments. Transactions are synchronised once the connection is restored. ANOR deploys the till with the LANDI C20 Pro terminal and the ANOR POS Bridge application, which handles thermal receipt printing, the cash drawer and the customer-facing display. Full details are on the Odoo Point of Sale page.

That is precisely Odoo's architectural advantage: the till, the eCommerce site and the warehouses all share the same database. There is no connector to maintain between channels. Stock updates in real time with every sale, regardless of where it originates. For more detail, see our Odoo for retail page.

Odoo manages product variants natively: size, colour, material and any combination of attributes. Each combination has its own stock level, its own barcode and its own pricing. Variant management is available at the till, in eCommerce and in back office, all within the same interface.

Yes, provided the data migration is planned in advance. Customer records, order history and loyalty balances can all be imported into Odoo before go-live. ANOR handles this step in a structured way. Our data migration guide explains the method in detail.

Odoo Point of Sale is compatible with a wide range of peripherals. ANOR specifically deploys the LANDI C20 Pro terminal with the ANOR POS Bridge application, which manages thermal receipt printing, the cash drawer and the customer display. Other configurations are possible depending on existing hardware.

The timeline depends on the functional scope, the volume of data and the level of customisation currently in place in Cegid Y2. On a typical retail project, a migration takes between 2 and 9 months. The fastest migration carried out by ANOR took 2 months with no interruption to operations. A 30-minute conversation is enough to estimate the timeline for your specific case.
