After two decades of uninterrupted digital expansion, corporate events are undergoing a structural reversal. Sales and marketing departments are rediscovering the value of face-to-face contact. Trade shows, open house days, product demonstrations, partner seminars, industry conferences: in-person has regained a share it had lost during the golden years of all-digital. This evolution is not a step backward. It is a strategic rebalancing of the range of relationship tools available to French SMEs and mid-sized companies.

Why in-person is regaining ground

  • Three forces converge to put the physical event back at the heart of sales strategies
  • The first is digital saturation
  • Executives' inboxes have become unmanageable
  • Webinar invitations have multiplied to the point that remote attendance rates have collapsed
  • Video meetings, practical but tiring in high doses, create only a limited share of the bond that in-person meetings used to create

The second force is the unique value of shared experience. A dinner after a day of events, a hands-on product demonstration, an informal conversation during a coffee break, create memories and relationships that digital struggles to reproduce. Executives who have rebuilt their events calendar since 2023 unanimously testify to the higher commercial value of the contacts made this way.

The third force is differentiation. When most competitors stick to digital communication, organizing a well-prepared event becomes an act of positioning. The SME or mid-sized company that brings its prospects or partners together in a refined setting sends a signal of solidity and seriousness that stands out in a digital-only landscape.

The hidden cost of poorly managed events

This revival of in-person events has a downside:

  • Events are expensive.
  • Venue rental, catering, communication materials, travel, team mobilization.
  • For an SME, an event of fifty people easily represents fifteen to thirty thousand euros of total investment.
  • This investment only yields a return if it is managed rigorously.

The classic trap is the event without a clear commercial framework. Fifty people invited, fifty people welcomed, and in the end no structured record of who attended, who was interested in what, who deserves priority follow-up. A few opportunities spontaneously identified by the salespeople present, and many weak signals lost in the days that follow.

This leakage is massive. A French study on event ROI showed that organizations without dedicated tooling converted on average only three to five percent of attendees into identified sales opportunities, whereas organizations with the right tools reached fifteen to twenty-five percent. The difference is not in the quality of the event. It is in the rigor of the system around the event.

The event integrated into the information system

  • Odoo's Events module lets you design the event as a sequence integrated into the information system
  • The registration page is hosted on the company's website
  • Registrations flow into the CRM, qualified by the information entered
  • Confirmations go out automatically
  • Reminders are triggered as the event approaches
  • Badges are printed
  • On arrival, scanning the badge records actual attendance and links the attendee to their profile

During the event, salespeople have on a tablet the list of attendees present, with their commercial profile, any history, and declared interests. Interactions are recorded in real time. Opportunities are created as you go.

After the event, analysis is immediate. How many registered, how many attended, how many converted into identified opportunities, what revenue generated in the end. These indicators feed the decision of whether or not to organize a similar event in the future, and with what adjustments.

The regulatory dimension

A business event involves the processing of personal data: names, job titles, contact details, food allergies, sometimes photographs. The General Data Protection Regulation applies without exception. Organizations must provide clear notices on data use, collect consent for specific uses (publishable photographs, newsletter sign-up), and guarantee deletion of data after a reasonable period.

In Odoo, these obligations are handled natively by the Events module, which relies on the centralized consent management present throughout the contacts database. This integration avoids risky handling of scattered Excel files and provides structured proof of compliance.

The conference as owned media

A sometimes underestimated dimension of events is their ability to become owned media. A French SME or mid-sized company that organizes a leading industry conference every year gradually positions itself as a voice that matters in its sector. The content produced at this conference (talks, panels, testimonials) then feeds communication throughout the year.

This owned-media strategy, practiced by some leading French mid-sized companies, is not reserved for large players. It essentially requires consistency over time and quality of the content offered. Over a decade, it is one of the most powerful levers for building brand equity for a French company.

An investment to be measured

For executives considering integrating events into their sales strategy, the question is not so much whether to organize events, but how to organize them so that they deliver a measurable return. Software tooling is only part of the answer, but an indispensable part. Without a structured system, events remain expenses. With a structured system, they become investments.

ANOR supports this structuring by integrating event management into the company's overall sales strategy.
