What ERP scope does a logistics provider or warehousing operator need?

Short answer: six applications form the core system for a logistics provider or a manufacturer with a complex warehouse: Inventory, Barcodes, Sales, Purchase, Subscriptions and Accounting. The customer portal and carrier connectors complete the picture.

The scope is rolled out in three successive lots, allowing you to go live quickly without waiting for a monolithic project to complete.

Logistics sector challenges addressed in Odoo

Each challenge maps to a feature you can activate in the ERP. Here is what the standard product covers with no custom development.

Locations and put-away strategies

Multi-warehouse, hierarchical locations, put-away rules and replenishment rules: Odoo Inventory models the physical layout of your warehouses.

Wave, batch and zone picking

Group transfer orders using your preferred method: wave, batch picking or zone. Reduce travel distance and picking errors with no bespoke development.

Scanning on mobile terminals

The Barcodes app runs on any Android or iOS terminal via a browser. Receipt, put-away, picking and stock counts are all guided and confirmed by scan.

Cycle counts without stopping operations

Schedule partial counts by zone or product category. Your warehouse keeps running while you count.

Multi-client and multi-owner stock

Manage several stock owners within a single warehouse. Each client sees only their own items through the Odoo portal.

Logistics service billing

Storage per cubic metre, handling per pallet, transport per shipment: Odoo Subscriptions and Invoicing automate the rebilling of every service.

Carriers and shipping labels

Connect your carriers (Colissimo, Chronopost, DHL and others) to generate labels and retrieve tracking numbers directly within Odoo.

Multi-entity with consolidation

Running a logistics group with several companies? Odoo's multi-company accounting handles intercompany flows and consolidation in a single tool.

Bank feed and monthly close

Automatic reconciliation, matching and period close: Odoo Accounting integrates with logistics flows for real-time financial visibility.

Customer portal and B2B relationships in logistics

Your depositing clients want visibility without having to call you. Odoo gives them secure, self-service access.

Self-service customer portal

Each depositing client can view their stock levels, movements and delivery documents through the Odoo portal. Fewer inbound calls and greater client confidence.

Online orders and confirmations

Clients submit inbound or outbound orders from the portal. You validate them in Odoo and the picking workflow starts automatically.

Transparent billing

Each client receives a detailed monthly statement of services consumed: volume stored, handling operations and shipments. Everything is traceable.

Electronic signature and documents

Delivery notes, bills of lading and terms and conditions: sign and archive directly in Odoo with no manual re-entry or paper documents.

What the standard Odoo covers and what requires upfront scoping

ANOR states the limits before you sign, not after. Here is what you need to know before starting an Odoo WMS project.

What the standard covers with no custom development

  • Multi-warehouse and hierarchical locations with put-away rules
  • Wave, batch and zone picking
  • Mobile terminal scanning via the Barcodes app
  • Cycle counts by zone or product category
  • Multi-client stock in a single warehouse with differentiated portal access
  • Automatic storage billing via Odoo Subscriptions
  • Standard carrier connectors (labels and tracking)
  • Multi-company accounting with consolidation and bank feed

What requires separate scoping and pricing

  • Integration with vertical carousels or automated picking systems: a dedicated connector is designed and priced during the technical scoping phase.
  • Very high transaction volumes (millions of stock movement lines per year): infrastructure sizing is carried out before the project starts.
  • Interfaces with existing TMS or WCS systems: assessed during the situation review.

How ANOR runs an Odoo WMS project

1

Flow and constraint review

We map your physical flows, your put-away rules, your depositing clients and your billing requirements. This complimentary review identifies priority lots and scoping points (automated storage, volumes, interfaces). See our organisational consulting approach.

2

Lot-by-lot scoping and configuration

Lot 1 covers the essential warehouse flows: goods receipt, put-away, picking and shipping with mobile terminal scanning. It can be live in approximately eight weeks. Subsequent lots add service billing and then advanced integrations.

3

Data migration and business testing

Products, locations, stock history and client contracts: every migration is prepared, tested and signed off with your teams before go-live. See our migration expertise.

4

Go-live, training and follow-up

The go-live is scheduled to avoid peak periods. Your operatives are trained on the mobile terminal and back-office. ANOR remains available for post-launch support.

Real-world examples of Odoo WMS projects

Multi-entity logistics group on Odoo 19

A group of logistics providers managing several separate legal entities deployed Odoo to unify stock management, service billing and consolidated accounting. The customer portal allows each depositing client to track their movements in real time. Multi-company accounting replaced several disparate tools with no interruption to operations.

Manufacturer integrated with two automated storage systems

A manufacturer operating two vertical carousels in its warehouse integrated Odoo as the central orchestrator: picking orders sent by Odoo trigger the carousels and outbound movements are automatically reflected in stock records. This connector was designed during a dedicated technical scoping phase, in line with our lot-by-lot approach.

These two examples illustrate very different profiles: the standard Odoo product covers the vast majority of logistics requirements and bespoke integrations are built on a solid foundation.

Odoo 20 AI capabilities for logistics

Odoo 20 embeds AI in a particularly advanced way: fifty-two ai* modules in the Enterprise edition, compared with fifteen in Odoo 19. For logistics, this means active agents across stock, purchasing and shipping: replenishment suggestions, anomaly detection in picking flows, automatic product categorisation and AI-triggered actions on put-away rules.

The technical foundation reinforces these capabilities: PostgreSQL as a free, high-performance database, Python as the framework language and the dominant language in AI. Both Odoo editions, Community and Enterprise, are open source. This guarantees full auditability of all processes, an important criterion for logistics providers subject to quality requirements.

The MCP connection (ai_mcp) opens Odoo to external AI agents, making advanced scenarios possible: voice-controlled warehouse management, predictive analysis of activity peaks or automatic optimisation of picking waves.

Odoo licence: what you pay to the publisher

Odoo offers its Custom plan at €35.90 per user per month in the first year, then €44.90 from the second year onwards. All applications, multi-company and external APIs are included. This price is set by Odoo, the publisher: ANOR is an integrator and partner, not a licence reseller.

Frequently asked questions about Odoo WMS

Odoo covers the functions expected of a WMS: hierarchical locations, put-away and picking strategies, wave and batch picking, mobile terminal scanning, cycle counts and traceability by lot or serial number. For very specific requirements such as automated system integration, dedicated scoping is needed. For the vast majority of SME and mid-market warehouses, the standard product is sufficient.

Yes. Odoo can distinguish stock by owner within a single physical warehouse. Each depositing client accesses their own items, movements and documents through the Odoo portal without seeing any other client's data.

The Odoo Barcodes app runs on any terminal with a modern web browser, whether a smartphone, a tablet or an industrial Android terminal. No specific installation is required on the device.

Yes. Odoo Subscriptions allows you to define periodic billing rules based on quantities stored, handling operations or shipments. Each depositing client receives a detailed monthly statement with no manual re-entry.

Yes, but this integration is scoped and priced separately during the technical review. We have already built this type of connector for manufacturing clients. The timeline and cost depend on the protocol exposed by the storage system.

Yes. Multi-company accounting is included in the Odoo Custom plan. It covers intercompany flows, consolidation and separate charts of accounts per company, all within a single interface.
